Happy St. Urho's Day!

Today is St. Urho's Day, a day for hard drinking, wearing green and royal purple, and cursing grasshoppers.

It is not to be confused with the festival of that Irish guy, what's-his-name.

I have sent you all a St. Urho's Day card, which you may access here.

Illonen St. Urho's Paivaa!!! (Happy St. Urho's Day!!!)

Either Finland was invaded by Mutant Grasshoppers From Mars, or Urho was a very small midget.

Looking at St. Urho's origins, I see he was originally credited with driving frogs out of Finland, rather than grasshoppers. The schism between frog-Urho and grasshopper-Urho followers no doubt explains the long and bloody series of religious civil wars in Finland. You betcha.

Whether Urho drove out grasshoppers or frogs, it's the Finnish mosquitos you have to worry about nowadays . . .

Grapes? In Finland?

Off the top of my head, I'd be hard pressed to come up with the names of any Finnish wines ...

Anyway, Happy St. Urho's Day to you too, Walter!
