Things To Do When You've Got A Virus

So the Luck Storm has rained down a virus. I'm sitting back and taking it easy and drinking hot fluids, and I made myself some Thai beef-and-ginger soup, which opens up the sinuses pretty good.

But now that I'm more or less housebound, how to entertain myself as the Solstice approaches?

I could go online and listen to some cheerful holiday songs.

Or check out the latest animated video.

Or maybe I'll just curl up with a good book.

The Solstice provides such a myriad of possibilities that I don't know which way to turn.

Which is the way They like it, of course . . .

Not to be too gruesome, but if the crud is in your head, try nasal irrigation -- flushing out the sinuses with hot water and a saline solution. They sell the plastic bottle and little packets of the solution in most pharmacies.

It's pretty disgusting the first couple of times, but done twice a day it really helps. I've had a chronic sinus infection forever (sort of like an eternal cold) and since I started the process I'm breathing better than I have since I was 12.

Walter, how long did you have the bug? Mine started in my throat Sunday and last night moved to my nose. Steve, thanks for the tip. It is a nasty solution but I need to screw my courage to the sticking point etc.

Pat, fan of you both, no voice left to call Dial-A-Nurse with.

My bug lasted about a week, and only slowed me down for around three days. The rest of the time it was just an irritant.

Of course it was the third cold I've had in 2006, so you'd think my immune system would be hep to it by now.
